Back in Black

Excuse my absense, I haven't been posting as often as I'd like to. A lot has happened over these months: Joel won JBAY, Slater on the odd losing streak. Is there a new dawn for the world's best surfer title? Anyway, Nathan's new video is available for free download. Snap it before Surfline changes their mind. Be sure to watch the ending credits for crazy shit.

Kill the parking meter

Waikiki is a pretty bad spot to surf. The crowded lineup with no surf etiquette is enough to steer anyone away. However, when conditions are good and their are multiple waves per set unlike the usual one time deal, it's a damn good spot (Queens). The Honolulu Zoo is the best spot to park if you want to make it to the break. A new proposal is being set forth to raise the Honolulu Zoo parking meter prices from 0.25 to 1.50 an hour. Now, this shit is ridiculous. I can buy a fucking burger from McDonald's for that price of an hour. What's next? Will every parking meter follow suit? Gas prices are up, cigarette prices are up, and now this? The economy is going to hell boys. Prepare for the ride.

The GROM takeover

Man, it's a good year to be a grom. After the memorial day surf contest at Bowls, Quicksilver is hosting a grom only contest at Kewalo Basin. I have to admit I get a tad jealous when I paddle out and see these groms shredding. In Hawaii, they are fucking everywhere. In other news, I purchased a digital SLR. Expect some pictures soon.

Paint it black

Surfline's free premium week came to close. Hope you all enjoyed the high definition glass feeds. In other news, North Shore is still dead-- for now. Next week it looks like the swell is rolling like a giant fucking snowball. Till then,

Noho Hewa

I'm sure some of you have seen Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. If you haven't, it's about the final chapters of Native American history. No, not the boring shit. It's an HBO movie starring the Native Americans who lost their sacred land. I saw this movie last year, but something close to home was released not too long ago:

Noho Hewa

No, it's not out yet. I haven't seen the screenings either, but it's a documentary. This is the story of how Hawaii came to be the 50th state.
